Seth Davis analyzes title game, Jim Calhoun’s future, coaching carousel

Sports Illustrated and CBS’ Seth Davis joined the show to talk about the UConn-Butler matchup and Jim Calhoun’s future.

“I think UConn should be favored,” Davis said. “I’m just a little bit surprised to see the line where it is (UConn is favored by 3 1/2). I’m not sure there’s a talent gap.”

Davis said that Butler’s Shelvin Mack and Matt Howard could play anywhere, and the Bulldogs match up with UConn on paper.

Davis also commented on Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun. He said that Calhoun is more relaxed than ever.  “I think Jim is genuinely surprised his team is playing in this game,” Davis said.

Davis also commented on the size of the NCAA Tournament field. He thinks it will stay at 68 for some time.

Davis said VCU coach Shaka Smart will end up at North Carolina State this offseason. He thinks Smart will play the underdog role well with Duke and UNC in their backyard. And Davis thinks Brad Stevens will stay at Butler for a long time. Davis had a great point on Butler. Stevens can recruit the kind of players he likes right now, and may not be able to if he went to a bigger school.
