Kevin McHale on why he took Rockets job, Terry’s struggles in Dallas

New Houston Rockets coach and still TNT and NBA TV analyst for a few more days Kevin McHale joined the show to talk about why he took the job.

Dan asked McHale which his preference is, coaching or being a GM. “I like coaching more,” McHale said. “I think you have more impact on the game. I like being on the floor, working with the guys.”

Dan asked McHale how he’d defend Dirk Nowitzki. “I’d have to push up on him and try to make him dribble the ball,” McHale said.

McHale, however, said covering Nowitzki is very difficult. McHale said he’s surprised that the Heat haven’t put LeBron on Dirk.

McHale also commented on Jason Terry’s struggles. McHale said it’s not fair that Terry has to deal with LeBron covering him. “I don’t think Jason Terry will have a big game if LeBron stays on him,” Terry said.

McHale compared LeBron and Larry Bird. He said both could dominate games without taking a lot of shots, which is a very special skill. He wouldn’t quite commit on who was a better passer.
