Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples joined guest host Tom Curran to talk about conference realignment.
Staples said that Notre Dame is the big prize out there. “If someone can convince Notre Dame to join the conference in football, that conference is going to get very, very rich,” Staples said.
Staples said that Notre Dame makes sense with the ACC. For one, the Irish would have a better chance of winning the conference than the Big Ten. But it’s also about power.
“I would go to the ACC because I could make demands on the ACC,” Staples said. “You can’t make any demands on the Big Ten.”
Staples said if Texas goes to the Pac-12 or whatever it’s called, they won’t be able to keep their network as is. They’ll have to share more money. Texas and Notre Dame have the same problem. They want to stay independent financially from other teams in a conference.
