Michael Irvin says ‘Boys didn’t have bounties, but they wanted to take players out

NFL Network’s Michael Irvin joined the show to talk about the Saints’ bounties and more.

Irvin talked about the way his Cowboys acted. “We didn’t have any bounties with coaches,” Irvin said. “Did we look at each other and say let’s lay out that guy. Yeah.”

Irvin said he felt like the Eagles, Redskins, Giants and other opponents were always after him, but he didn’t know if it was because of bounties. “Everybody wanted to take me out. That was the best opportunity to win the football game.”

Irvin said he doesn’t think an extra $1,000 is that big a deal with players. He said the mentality to take guys out permeated the NFL anyway.

Irvin said he thinks this story is amplified because of the timing. There’s not else much going on. And the NFL happens to be trying to clean up the sport right now.

Irvin also commented on Peyton Manning. He said the 28 seconds of video was enough for him to invest $28 million in the quarterback.
