Barry Sanders says there’s still place in NFL for elite RBs

Hall of Famer Barry Sanders joined the show to talk about being the cover of EA Sports’ NCAA Football 13 and more.

Dan asked Sanders if the NFL game has deemphasized the role of running back. “It depends on where you go,” Sanders said. “You look at some teams and they still utilize the running backs. It’s a passing game. But there are some still some teams that beat you with a running back. If you’re a premiere running back, it’s not that different.”

Dan asked Sanders if he thinks there ever was a bounty on him.  “I wouldn’t say a bounty in the strictest sense,” Sanders said. “I don’t know if that would have made a difference. Most guys on defense if they get a chance to take you out, they’re going to.”

Sanders talked about playing greats like Howie Long, Ronnie Lott and Reggie White. “They want to know you out anyway,” Sanders said. “That’s because that’s who they are. That’s what they do.”
