Chris Herren shares message from NFL Rookie Symposium
Chris Herren joined the show to talk about his journey and speaking at the NFL Rookie Symposium.
Herren shared some of what he tells the young players: “My opening line was there are more drug addicts and alcoholics in this room than NFL all-stars.”
Herren talked about his problems during his playing days. “I could not fucntion on a basketball court unless I had opiates in my system,” Herren said.
Herren talked about how he first tried Oxycontin and how bad it got. He even scored before a game outside the stadium. “I became a professional drug addict and a parttime basketball player,” Herren said.
Herren said he didn’t hear Pacman Jones yesterday, but he heard some of Michael Vick and there are similarities in that they both had to get beat up pretty bad to recover.
Herren said the rookies appeared to be listening. “Those kids were very engaged yesterday,” Herren said.
