Troy Aikman praises Harbaugh for QB decision, but says team should be more open during the week

FOX NFL analyst Troy Aikman joined the show to talk about the big stories heading into Week 13.

Aikman weighed in on the 49ers’ decision to start Colin Kaepernick over Alex Smith this week. Aikman said there has to be some questions about Smith since they flirted with Peyton Manning in the offseason, and they probably think Kaepernick is more of a downfield threat.

Aikman’s big issue is that Smith had to sit there and lie all week and claim he didn’t know. Aikman finds that very frustrating.

Aikman applauded Harbaugh for making the riskier decision. He likes when coaches make moves and don’t worry about the consequences. “Most of these coaches are heavily influenced by what the criticism is going to be,” Aikman said.

Aikman also weighed in on his former team the Dallas Cowboys. Aikman said they’re still in the playoff hunt, but at some point they have to win a big game. Aikman said they haven’t played up to their ability since Week 1 against the Giants.
