SI’s Lee Jenkins looks back when Jordan became ‘Air Jordan’

Sports Illustrated’s Lee Jenkins joined the show to talk about his story on the 1988 Slam Dunk contest and how that shaped the image of Air Jordan.

“Back then the All-Star Game [and Slam Dunk Contest] were different,” Jenkins said. “Winning the All-Star Game and Slam Dunk contest meant something.”

Jenkins explained that Jordan was frozen out by Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson two years earlier in the All-Star Game and that motivated him.

Jenkins discussed LeBron vs. Jordan. He said they’re very different — LeBron’s strength is his physicality and Jordan’s was his gracefulness. But right now the greatest ever debate is really all about Jordan.
