P.J. Carlesimo says he was gone unless Nets went all the way

Ex-Nets coach P.J. Carlesimo joined the show to talk about the team’s decision to let him go after they lost to the Bulls in the first round of the playoffs.

Dan asked how much the playoff loss counted against him. “Very little to be honest,” Carlesimo said. “Anything other than a championship wasn’t going to change their minds.”

Carlesimo said that it was a great opportunity and thinks the Nets are building something. “This franchise is in good shape,” Carlesimo said.

Carlesimo said that the Bulls’ injuries actually caused some matchup problems — for example, Nate Robinson was a big problem subbing in for Kirk Hinrich. And Carlesimo said they were afraid Derrick Rose was going to come back during the series.
