Vinny Del Negro on why Clippers let him go and Chris Paul’s future

Former Los Angeles Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro joined the show to talk about why he got fired after the season.

Dan asked if at any point he was promised he’d be back. Del Negro said no, but there was discussion of the topic. “We had talked about at the beginning of the season about an extension,” Del Negro said, “but we tabled it until the end of the season.”

Dan asked Del Negro whether Chris Paul had something to do with things not working out for him in L.A. “Chris is a free agent,” Del Negro said. “He’s entitled to his opinion. … He’s going to have a lot of say in a lot of things.”

“Yes,” Del Negro said. “I feel like he enjoys Los Angeles. And where’s a better team to be right now then a team that won 54 games last season.”

Del Negro said that he knows owner Donald Sterling was a fan, but he wouldn’t say that there was disagreement at the highest levels.
