Bones Mackay says Phil had greatest round of his career at British Open

Caddy Jim “Bones” Mackay joined the show to talk about Phil Mickelson’s dramatic victory at the British Open.

Dan asked if this was Mickelson’s greatest round. “Without question,” Mackay said. “Because he did everything.”

Mackay talked about how “incredibly satisfying” it was for him to win at Muirfield. He said players came up to him afterward and said “my gosh, I didn’t see a 66 out there.”

Dan asked Mackay how much credit he takes when Phil wins. “Very little, if not none,” Mackay said. “I don’t hit a shot. I work for a guy who’s not a blamer. He takes all the responsibility.”

Mackay said they rarely disagree now since they’ve been together for so long. He said that 95 percent of the time they agree on choices.
