Steve Spurrier says he’s OK with breaking off from NCAA if athletes will get paid

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier joined the show to talk about NCAA issues and his star Jadeveon Clowney.

— Spurrier said Clowney was easy to coach and there were no off-the-field issues. “He’s not a nightclub buy,” Spurrier said. “He doesn’t mess with Twitter. He’s low maintenance.”

— Spurrier said that Clowney’s hit on Michigan’s Vincent Smith was not helmet-to-helmet. Spurrier said he hit him in the chest.

— Spurrier talked about the problems with the NCAA. He said he’d be OK with power teams breaking off from the NCAA if it helps players get paid. He thinks that football and basketball players should be paid something. The athletes put in a lot of work and a lot of them don’t have money. He said it could help with things like helping parents travel to games.

— Dan asked Spurrier if they have a national championship. Spurrier said that if they get very fortunate.
