Drew Brees on teams that passed on him in Draft

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees joined the show to talk about the Draft and more. Here are some of Brees’ takes:

— Brees did not go to New York for the Draft because he didn’t want to get stuck waiting around. He did hear two teams were looking at him in the first round: “The Dolphins. I believe they chose 24 or 26. And at one point it was the Chiefs, but they ended up trading for Trent Green right before.”

– Dan asked Brees if Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick were lucky to go to the right team. There’s definitely a benefit of going to a team that’s established,” Brees said. “And there’s a great culture. And you’re not required to do as much. That can be a hit to your pride and confidence. The competitor in you thinks you have to fix all these problems. You start to press a little bit, put too much pressure on yourself and it makes things worse. I’ve done that at certain points of my career.”

– Dan asked the biggest bill he’s ever had to pay at dinner. It was $8,000 in Miami before the Super Bowl. He said that he thought it would be on Sean Payton’s credit card, but when it was that high, he decided he’d pick it up. Brees said it was the “stone crabs.”

— Brees said he’s No. 9 in honor of Ted Williams. Brees wanted to be a baseball player for a long time.
