Against the Grain: Mobile QB trend dying; WRs the new RBs

Two bold statements in today’s Against the Grain:

1. Mobile QB trend is dying: Cam Newton is obviously beat up; RGIII can’t stay healthy; Russell Wilson’s numbers are going down (89.9 passer rating this season); Colin Kaepernick hasn’t taken the next step in his fourth year, hence the Niners 5-4 record.

2. Wide receivers have become generic: This year’s rookie class of wide receivers is phenomenal and more classes like this will follow because there’s so much passing in high school and college. This year, seven rookie WRs have 5-plus TDS — that’s already the most ever for any season (Benjamin/Bryant/Brown/Evans/Hurns/Matthews/Watkins — via NFL PR).
