Matt Birk explains why NFL may change Combine drills

NFL director of football development Matt Birk joined the show to talk about possible revisions to the Draft Scouting Combine.

Birk said that they’re not going to rush into anything, but he argued some of the drills are ineffective. He noted technology has given teams so much data, they can do completely different things.

“This is never going to be an exact science,” Birk said. He explained where the 40-yard dash came from – Paul Brown noted that’s how long a guy runs on kickoff coverage.

Birk did say that teams are comfortable with the Wonderlic as a tool. Birk did agree with Dan that the Wonderlic results shouldn’t become public.
