Denny Hamlin breaks down exactly how he won Daytona 500

Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin joined the show to explain how he did it and follow up on his promise to send us the wheel if he won the race on last Friday’s show.

Dan asked if he’s seen the video of the last lap. “It happened so fast,” Hamlin said. “Going into the last lap I had no intention of winning that race. I somehow just put it all together.”

Hamlin described the key move: “Probably the unintentional move to block the 4 car. He was coming pretty fast on us. I went to block that. The negative camber sent my car so far forward. There was a side draft thing. I kept side drafting all the way up to the lead.”

Hamlin discussed competing with his Joe Gibbs teammates. “That’s one thing that Joe Gibbs has always said to us,” Hamlin said. “Don’t wreck each other. That’s the No. 1 rule. [After that], do the best you can win for yourself.”
