Tom Verducci talks about Marlins dismantling, Phillies payroll

Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci joined the show to talk about recent moves in MLB.

Verducci said the Marlins trading Hanley Ramirez is just the beginning. “Everyone is in play on the Marlins roster now,” Verducci said.

Verducci said that Marlins management’s notion of turning Miami into a baseball town isn’t happening. “Their business plan blew up,” Verducci said.

Verducci thinks the Dodgers did well with the Hanley trade. “I don’t think they paid a real high price for a guy that two or three years ago was untouchable,” Verducci said. But Verducci said he thinks Ramirez may not have a position and his hitting has gone down over the last couple of years.

Verducci also commented on the Phillies signing Cole Hamels. He said they could be in trouble with no payroll flexibility. He said that they may want to consider moving Cliff Lee to Texas.

Verducci thinks that the odds of pitcher Ryan Dempster moving from Chicago is close to 100 percent.
