Mississippi St.’s Dan Mullen on pressure of being No. 1

Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen joined the show to talk about being No. 1 in the nation and more. Here are some of his takes:

— Mullen on the pressure of being No. 1. “I was fortunate being with Urban [Meyer]  at Florida,” Mullen said, “having a lot of attention. …  All that hype that was around it. You have to remember what got you there. Enjoy all the hype, but make sure the focus doesn’t change. It will all disappear.”

— Mullen on his role in promoting his quarterback Dak Prescott for Heisman: “We’re pretty fortunate now. There’s so much attention. I don’t think we have to do anything. We don’t have to put his name in front of people. I tell him this all the time, if he likes this, keep playing well. If he doesn’t, go out and throw a couple of interceptions and it will all go away???

— Mullen on the last time he yelled at Prescott: “Yesterday at practice I probably yelled at him three or four times. It’s a friendly yell. Loud, constructive criticism.”

— Mullen on his dislike of Ole Miss: “There’s nothing personal about any individuals. I know and recruited a lot of their players. I know their coaches. I think it’s just a dislike of the institution as a whole. We just call them the school up north.”
