Jay Bilas on what is and isn’t working in college basketball

ESPN’s Jay Bilas joined the show to preview the NCAA Tournament and more. Here are some of his remarks …

— Dan asked who his player of the year is. “I’m leaning toward Denzel Valentine of Michigan State,” Bilas said. “He has contributed to his team being a better team.”

— Dan asked the state of the game right now. “Much improved this year,” Bilas said. “The rules changes have really helped the game. There’s better flow. It’s a vast improvement.”

— But Bilas still has major concerns with one-and-done: “We have to wrap our arms around this eon and done issue. We have to embrace it or evolve with the current landscape.”

— Bilas said that the NBA is better than college right now. “Frankly,” Bilas said, “the NBA has become a better product. College has more passion and better environments …. If you prefer college basketball over NBA, it has nothing to do with the basketball.”

— Bilas listed Texas A&M and Indiana as teams you don’t want to face.
