MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred discussed the potential of computers calling balls and strikes in the future. “There’s technology limitations right now,” Manfred said. “Unfortunately, the boxes that go up during broadcasts are an approximation. …. The box that goes up during broadcast is a standard box. In our system a technician goes in an manually sets the strike zone to fit the dimensions of a hitter.”
