Dave Kaplan explains why Theo Epstein doesn’t want Ryne Sandberg
CSN Chicago analyst Dave Kaplan joined the show to talk about the Cubs’ decision not to pursue Ryne Sandberg for their managerial opening.
Kaplan talked about why Theo Epstein wouldn’t go in the Sandberg direction. “I think he just wants a fresh start,” Kaplan said.
Kaplan thinks that Sandberg might cause problems for Epstein. “It’s a lot harder to change out an icon then someone you bring in just to do the job,” Kaplan said.
Kaplan said some of the candidates might be Philles bench coach Pete Mackanin , or pitching experts Mike Maddux or Greg Maddux.
Kaplan doesn’t think that the Cubs will go after Albert Pujols. He thinks they’ll put money into pitching and defense.
