Lane Kiffin: Barkley should win Heisman; explains his team was gassed against Oregon

USC head coach Lane Kiffin joined the show to talk about the Trojans’ big win at Oregon on Saturday and more.

Dan asked Kiffin who he’d give his Heisman to. “Matt Barkley,” Kiffin said. “No question.”

Kiffin said that Barkley should be rewarded for playing under the cloud of sanctions, not penalized.

Dan asked Kiffin how they slowed down Oregon’s fast-paced attack for most of the game. “I just think we tackled very well for three quarters … and eliminated big plays in the run game.” Kiffin told me. “We wore down at the end.”

Kiffin talked about Oregon’s final drive as the Ducks tried to tie it. Kiffin said that he called a timeout because his guys were so tired. Kiffin thinks Oregon coach Chip Kelly may have noticed that and decided to keep moving the ball and not worry about the clock.

Kiffin weighed in on his relationship with UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel. “People assume rivalries and coaches don’t get a long,” Kiffin said. “At least in this conference it’s not.”
