Kevin Ding says no real help out there for Lakers in trade market

Orange County Register Lakers reporter Kevin Ding joined the show to talk about the latest on the Lakers.

Ding said they face a dilemma about what to do next — whether to go for it or consider the long-term prosperity of the team.

Ding said that Kobe has a clear agenda — he wants to win now. And that Kobe and Pau Gasol have mutual respect. Ding also thinks Kobe feels comfortable throwing out his support for Gasol, because there are no real strong trade options out there. Since the Chris Paul deal fell through, there’s not a guy out there who can win it for them.

Dan asked Ding if Andrew Bynum was untouchable. Ding said that the Lakers will look at everything.

Ding said the Clippers do have a reason to be optimistic. “Chris Paul is everything the Lakers hoped he would be,” Ding said of the Clips’ star guard.

Ding is of Taiwanese descent and commented on the Jeremy Lin phenomenon. Dan asked if there’s ever a way to insert humor into the coverage Lin’s background. “Absolutely, and you should,” Ding said. “The point is there’s as a sensitivity from Asian-Americans becasue they’ve heard it all before and it becomes tiring.”
