Joe Torre on replay and accepting imperfections in game

MLB executive Joe Torre joined the show to talk about the latest developments in replay.

“We’re not going to have a kneejerk reaction,” Torre said. He wants to be deliberate because he doesn’t want to take anything away from the game.

“If you tend to stop the game all the time, it’s going to lose its charm

Torre  commented on the blown replay call at the A’s-Orioles game.  He said it was the first blown replay call since they started doing it. “The percentages are good,” Torre said.

Dan asked about Peter Gammons’ comments that Angel Hernandez blew the call to make a statement against replay. Torre didn’t agree. “I had some issues with Angel when I was a manager,” Torre said. “But he tries to do the right thing for baseball.”

Torre emphasized there has to be a limit on instant replay. “The game is imperfect,” Torre siad. “We have to allow for bang-bang plays at first base.”
