Jimmie Johnson says NASCAR safer than NFL

Jimmie Johnson joined the show to talk about his season, this weekend’s race and more.

Dan asked Johnson which was safer, NFL or NASCAR. Johnson said NASCAR. “We have a lot more foam inside our helmet,” Johnson said. “We are not making forceful contact with something coming in the other direction. …. We have a safer environment. … You don’t see many broken bones any more. You don’t see the concussions.”

After Tony Stewart was injured in an outside short-track race, Dan was curious if Johnson is allowed to drive other vehicles.

“Every driver’s contracts has a long list of things you’re not allowed to do,” Johnson said. “To race any other vehicle you need approval.” Johnson said every time he’s asked, his sponsors and boss has said yes.

Johnsons said he’d let his daughter race if she wanted to. He’s not sure if he’d let here date a NASCAR driver.
