Joe Girardi reflects on Derek Jeter’s career

Yankees manager Joe Girardi joined the show to talk about Derek Jeter’s last game at Yankee Stadium.

Girardi said that he’s going to leave the decision about whether he wants to play up to Jeter this weekend. He said Jeter can hit or play the field wherever he wants … he can even manage. Girardi thinks he will ultimately decide to play.

Girardi talked about his emotions last night. “It’s hard losing great players,” Girardi said. “You don’t want to see them go. … He’s a great person to have around because he does everything the right way.”

Girardi talked about his first impression of Jeter when he came up. “I was shocked that a player could be so relaxed at such a young age,” Girardi said. Girardi said no one would ever have imagined that he’d have that many hits, but Jeter was able to achieve that because of how he played with so much heart.
