John Smoltz very worried about Tommy John surgery trend

MLB Network analyst John Smoltz joined the show talk about his Bracket and the state of Major League Baseball.

“It is such a problem,” Smoltz said. “How long can they pitch until they have their second or third?”

Smoltz said we’re training pitchers the wrong way and ruining young pitchers. He said there’s too much emphasis on the radar gun and parents think they can have their kids throw hard and just get them fixed by doctors.

“I hate it for the parents who think it’s normal and it’s a band-aid,” Smoltz said. “This is not normal. Don’t keep following these trends. I’m the first Tommy John recipient to go into the Hall of Fame. I can make a good argument I’ll be the last.”

Smoltz said his former teammate Greg Maddux would never get drafted today.
