Roy Williams: My friends have serious problem with Washington Post writer

Roy Williams commented on a Washington Post story by Kent Babb that alleged the North Carolina coach has been struggling with various issues, including health and NCAA-related problems. Here are Williams’ remarks:

“I tried to treat this lightly because I could deal with it much more strongly I think. I haven’t read it, I have two of my very close friends that were so mad that if they were to step in front of that guy in the street it would be a bad scene because they felt like the guy lied. I started to try and say it nicely but one of my guys said I never said anything like that. It’s upset all my friends and I haven’t read it … don’t care to read it, never will read it. He better step carefully around any of my friends because my high school coach is one of the most finest gentle men I’ve ever known in my life and one of my assistants who’s [been] with me for 21 years and they are so mad at that guy.”

“So, No. 1 I had two knee surgeries last summer. I don’t run like I use to but I could still out-run that damn guy if I had to chase his butt down. … The knee surgeries have slowed me down and I’m gonna have to talk to them after the season’s over about another knee replacement. But I really feel good. I can’t do the things I’ve done in the past as far as the running part or the walking part. I use to walk six days a week so now I go in the weight room and do all upper- body stuff … me and Arnold Schwarzenegger.”
